Maranatha's SeaPerch Team has Another Strong Showing at Internationals

Maranatha High School Science Club sent its three-time Regional Champions SeaPerch team to the University of Maryland this past weekend to compete in the 2024 SeaPerch Internationals.

Over 170 schools participated, some traveling from as far as Egypt, China, New Zealand, and the UAE to compete in the underwater robotics event.

Maranatha's SeaPerch Team A consisted of team members Matthew Moon ’24 (Captain), Eli Su ’24, Jeremy Ng ’25, Shaurya Bhartia ’25, Kaylee Lam ’26, Harrison Tang ’26, Spencer Wang ’26, Daniel Wang ’24, and Leo Liu ’24.  They were once again coached by Dr. Shouhua Huang from JPL. The team competed in the High School Stock Class, and out of 75 teams in the division, our team placed as follows:
  • Overall Finish: 7th
  • Obstacle Course: 2nd
  • Mission Course: 11th
  • Technical Design Report: 27th
Driver Spencer Wang and Cable Manager Kaylee Lam teamed up to have an amazing run in the Obstacle Course event. They finished with a 36-second final course time, missing a 1st-place Internationals finish by a mere second! Driver Matthew Moon and Cable Manager Kaylee Lam also had an impressive run in the Mission Course event, jumping up to 11th place from a 22nd-place finish a year ago.

Congratulations to Maranatha's SeaPerch team for another strong overall showing at Internationals! Many thanks to Dr. Matthew Ketterling, Principal Newkirk, and Ms. Beth Romero for their continued support, with special thanks to the team moms, Langley Lam and Rebekah Wang, for all their hard work throughout the year.
