Maranatha High School Wins Fourth Consecutive LA Regional SeaPerch Championship

For the fourth consecutive year, Maranatha High School's SeaPerch team has claimed the LA Regional Championship title!

Maranatha’s Science Club SeaPerch Teams traveled to Troy High School in Fullerton on March 1 to compete in the 2025 Los Angeles Regional SeaPerch Challenge. With this victory, Maranatha has secured its place in the International SeaPerch Challenge, set for May 31–June 1 at the University of Maryland, where the team will compete against top schools from around the world.

For this year’s SeaPerch competition, Maranatha’s Science Club formed two competition teams:

“Team Mars”, composed of Team Captain Spencer Wang ’26, Jeremy Ng ’25, Daniel Wang ’25, Harrison Tang ‘26, won the following awards:
  • 1st Place - Obstacle Course HS Stock Class
  • 1st Place - Mission Course HS Stock Class
  • 1st Place - Technical Design Report HS Stock Class
  • Overall 1st Place - High School Stock Class (Regional Champion)
“Team Apollo”, led by Team Captain Shaurya Bhartia ’25, included Chris Morey ’26, Anthony Hacopian ’27, Dustin Tsoi ’26, and Ian Gu ’25. Team Apollo won the following awards:
  • 2nd Place - Obstacle Course HS Stock Class
  • 2nd Place - Technical Design Report HS Stock Class
  • Overall 3rd Place - High School Stock Class
The Maranatha SeaPerch teams extend their gratitude to Dr. Shouhua Huang of JPL for his expert coaching and guidance. They also acknowledge the invaluable support of Principal Dan Newkirk, Science Department Chair Nathan Spear, and the families of all team members, whose encouragement has been instrumental in their success.

Maranatha High School’s SeaPerch teams continue to demonstrate excellence in STEM education, showcasing their engineering and problem-solving skills on a competitive stage. With their first-place regional victory, the team advances to the International SeaPerch Challenge, where they will compete against top teams worldwide. Their continued success reflects the dedication of Maranatha’s students, faculty, and mentors in fostering innovation and achievement in robotics.
